Business Basics
These six-hour courses are great for a child care provider to begin, whether you are considering starting a child care business or would like a refresher in running your business! Both classes are designed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of home and center based providers in the business world. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for these courses that help cover the cost of materials. Seating is limited, advanced registration is required. These classes both have six (6) STARS Credit Hours available.
Business Basics - Are you starting a new childcare business, growing a childcare business or would you just like a refresher on the basics of running your business? This class will help you build a business plan, set goals for the future, understand your financials and make a plan for finding new business. You are an expert at being a childcare provider; let us help you with the business side of things.
Business Problem Solving – The childcare business world isn’t easy! Your business may struggle because the economy is weak; parents may not always pay their bill on-time or at all; or employing people (one person or many people) can be a tricky at times. This class will help you solve the problems of planning for the future, collections and human resources best practices.
Leadership and Management
This course will enhance your leadership and management skills by identifying your personal strengths and potential areas for growth. Each class participant will complete a Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument; one of the most widely used instruments for understanding human preferences, behaviors, and interactions! The MBTI to will help you discover your learning, management, and leadership preferences. It will also teach you how you work best with other types. This class will teach you a lot about yourself and help you to build a winning team. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for this course that helps cover the cost of materials. Seating is limited, advanced registration is required. This class has six (6) STARS Credit Hours available.
Effective Communication
Ever feel like what you say to your parents, co-workers or employees is not what is being heard? This class will help you examine your communications style and the styles of those around you. The class will also teach you strategies for better communication so you can be more effective at building relationships with others. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for this course that helps cover the cost of materials. Seating is limited, advanced registration is required. This class has six (6) STARS Credit Hours available.
Cradling Literacy
The Cradling Literacy curriculum, developed by Zero to Three, is designed to enhance your skills as a child care provider or parent to support early language and literacy development in children from birth to 5 years.
Exploring Early Childhood Math and Literacy:: This activity-based class focuses on the building blocks of early childhood literacy and numeracy. You will gain an understanding of each of the basic content areas that children need be successful readers and math learners. You will have practice time with activities you can use immediately that are both fun and meaningful, yet easy to prepare. The class will also explore other ways to teach and reinforce math and literacy concepts using materials you already have on hand.
Linking Behavior and Literacy: This course will help you learn to guide a child’s behavior through specific techniques that support language and literacy. The course will also give effective strategies for supporting social-emotional literacy in early childhood.
Both courses are offered to any child care owner, their staff members, parents and family members, as well as any other interested parties. X, Y, Z, Boomers? Oh Dear! Understanding Generations in the Childcare Workplace
As a childcare provider you are expected to not only interact well with some of society’s youngest citizens, but you also have to be adept at dealing with all variety of adults as well. The parents of your children might range anywhere from young people in their early twenties to adults in their early forties; hello generations X and Y. Some of your children are probably being raised by their grandparents who may be in the Boomer generation or older. You may even have young high school age assistants who could potentially fall into what is now being referred to as generation Z.
Each generation comes with a general set of characteristics that, if you take the time to understand them, can help you assure that communication is effective and information is getting to where it needs to be. Join us for a half day workshop that will delve into the general characteristics of each generation and how you can have better interactions with each. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for this course that helps cover the cost of materials. Seating is limited, advanced registration is required. Lunch will be provided for this workshop. This class has four (4) STARS Credit Hours available.
